Steven Dedeaux Jr began his 31st and final birthday at an after hours club in the 3800 block of South Yakima Avenue. The club had two armed guards. They patted down everyone as they came in. Steven was inside the club and armed. Some patrons were allowed to carry weapons, but if the bouncers did not know them, weapons were not allowed.
Around 3:30am Steven noticed that someone he knew was having trouble at the door. The security guards were detaining him after finding a weapon on him. They had gotten one of his wrists in handcuffs when Steven yelled at them to let the man go. When they didn’t, Steven drew his gun and pointed it at them threatening to shoot if they did not let the man go. Instead the security guards opened fire, shooting Steven. One of the security guards was shot in the hand. The man in one cuff ran off.
Steven was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was later died becoming the second homicide victim this year.
This was not the first incident at this after-hours motorcycle club. Michael Ward Jr. was killed here back in 2014.

This is my uncle, we were very close, and he would do anything for the people he loved, first off no cop got shot at all, and my uncle was never taken to a hospital, they left his there for all most 12 hours, without calling an ambulance, he died on a street not in a hospital bed, he died cold and suffering. I don’t care what kind of threat you feel, those people who killed him were cops, and there was two, you shoot him in the hand or leg, and put him under arrest. I’d rather him be judged by 12 then carried by 6. He has two baby’s and one of them just started walking, he missed both of their birthdays by a month, his first baby is 3 and the other is 1. It was his birthday the day he died, and everyone from the night club was there for him, so anyone he wants in can come. And in your report it’s say that the guard only let people with weapons in if he knew them. And your right he did know him, so my question is why dis this man kill him. It’s been several months, and still no trial, why because it was a white male cop, and when your black and look like my uncle, you might as well have actually fired, because your gonna die anyways.
